Kazakhstan to Research for Increasing Oil Recovery Factor at Fields
OREANDA-NEWS. October 23, 2014. In 2015, Kazakhstan plans to conduct research to increase oil recovery factor at oil and gas fields in Kazakhstan. It was announced by Energy Minister Vladimir Shkolnik in the Majilis.
"In 2015 it is planned to conduct a serious analytical study with the ability to increase the oil recovery factor at all oil and gas fields in Kazakhstan. This year, a road map of scientific and technological development of the mining sector has been launched," Vladimir Shkolnik said at the joint meeting of the Council on Economic Policy under the faction "Nur Otan" in the Majilis.
He said that today there is about 70% of in-place oil resources at existing fields. "There are objective reasons related to the specifics of the country’sfields, the growing volume of hard-to-recover reserves, development time," the head of the Ministry of Energy said.
Experts estimate that the introduction of new methods of oil recovery will help to increase the recoverable oil reserves in Kazakhstan at least for 15-20%, Vladimir Shkolnik said.
