OREANDA-NEWS. October 23, 2014. The draft Law "On ratification of the Charter of Islamic Organization for Food Security" was discussed at an enlarged meeting of the Committee on Agriculture, Environment and Rural Development of the Senate.

"On June 28, 2011, Kazakhstan's President Nursultan Nazarbayev launched an initiative to establish a system of mutual food aid in the framework of the OIC at the 38th session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation held in Astana. It was also suggested to place the headquarters of the organization in Kazakhstan, as a country exporting food resources," Deputy Minister of Agriculture of Kazakhstan Erlan Nysanbayev said presenting the bill.

Deputy Minister noted that Kazakhstan's proposal was supported by all member states of the OIC. In November 2012, it was decided to develop the Charter of the new organization at the 39th Session of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers. Charter of the Islamic Organization for Food Security was signed by 19 countries in Conakry (Republic of Guinea), during the 40th session of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers on 9 -10 December 2013.

According to E. Nysanbayev, Kazakhstan, as the initiator of the organization incurs organizational expenses within three years after the ratification of the charter. 145 million tenge per year will be allocated for 2015-2017. Currently the staff of headquarters consisting of 8 people - citizens of Kazakhstan has been approved; it will be engaged in development of the methodology for calculating the financial participation of member states of the Islamic Organization for Food Security.

After the discussion the Committee decided to introduce the bill to the House.
