23 Years Ago First Antimonopoly Bodies Formed in Russia
OREANDA-NEWS. 17th October 1991, the Russian Federation formed the first antimonopoly bodies.
The history of antimonopoly regulation started in 1990 when the first antimonopoly body was established: RSFSR State Committee on Antimonopoly Policy and Support of New Structures (SCAP Russia).
A year later the first law “On Competition and Restricting Monopolistic Activity on Goods Markets”, and first regional antimonopoly bodies were created in the constituent territories of the Russian Federation. With the course of time, the antimonopoly authority changed several organizational forms and names. In 1997 it was renamed the State Antimonopoly Committee (SAC Russia); in 1998 –the Ministry of Antimonopoly Policy and Support of Entrepreneurship (MAP Russia); and in 2004 – the Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS Russia), which this year celebrates its 10-year anniversary.
At the time of establishing, FAS regional antimonopoly bodies were in 75 Russian provinces. In ten years their number increased – by 2014 there were already 83 regional bodies.
This year another antimonopoly body was formed: the Office of the Federal Antimonopoly Service in Crimea and Sebastopol (Crimea OFAS Russia). As a result, today FAS comprises 84 regional bodies operating in 85 constituent territories of the Russian Federation.
In such an important day, FAS expresses its gratitude to all officers of its regional bodies for their dedicated service and contribution in protection and development of competition in Russian regions.
