EEC Doubles Belarus' Meat Import Quota
OREANDA-NEWS. The Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) will increase twofold Belarus' quotas on pork and poultry import in the framework of the Customs Union, EEC Minister of Commerce Andrei Slepnyov told reporters.
Belarus has applied to have its poultry and pork import quotas increased, the minister informed. In his words, the EEC Board will gather next week to raise Belarus' 2014 pork import quota from 20,000 tonnes to 40,000 tonnes, while the poultry import quota will be increased from 10,000 tonnes to 20,000 tonnes.
Belarus wants to have its meat import quotas increased in light of the decline in meat production due to African Swine Fever and also because of the pressure to increased processed meat supplies to Russia.
