Highway-Sarateni-Soroca Commissioned in Moldova
OREANDA-NEWS. October 22, 2014. According to the press service of the government, the total cost of the project amounted to \\$100 million. Funds are allocated by the “Millennium challenge" corporation as a part of the American program Compact. Beneficiaries of the project were about 300 thousand people from Soroca, Telenesti and Floresti areas.
As the Prime Minister Iurie Leanca noted at the ceremony it is a good path for modernization of the whole country. U.S. Ambassador in Moldova William Moser noted that this project showed that in Moldova it is possible to build good roads.
The Ambassador said that within the framework of the project were carried out the repair and reconstruction of 14 bridges, sidewalks, gutters, and the bus station. In addition, William Moser noted that the project involved more than 1,27 thousand people, 70% of which are the citizens of Moldova. Construction works on the highway Sarateni-Soroca started in fall of 2012 to 44.9 km road from Saraceni to Gindesti restored by the two Turkish companies ONUR and SUMMA, and the rest of the site to Drochia (48,1 km) – by the Austrian company Strabag.
The press service of the government noted that, according to the experts, due to the construction of the route Sarateni-Soroca will increase the number of trips as well as the entrepreneurial activity that will lead to the creation of the new jobs. Since 2010, the program Compact provided Moldova grants totaling USD262 million for the development of infrastructure of roads, upgrade of irrigation systems in agriculture, promotion of the transition to agriculture.
