National Grid Begins Next Phase of Replacement Work in Wandsworth
OREANDA-NEWS. National Grid will be carrying out vital gas mains replacement work in Battersea Park Road between the junctions of Savona Street and Prince of Wales Drive.
Work is planned to take place between Monday 20 October and Monday 10 November.
To enable the work to be carried out safely and efficiently temporary traffic lights will be put up at the junction of Battersea Park Road and Prince of Wales Drive. Prince of Wales Drive will also be closed to eastbound traffic for the duration of this phase of work.
Between Friday 31 October and Monday 3 November traffic will also be prevented from turning right into Savona Street and onto the adjacent slip road from Battersea Park Road. We also need to prevent traffic turning right out of Savona Street onto Battersea Park Road.
Neil Jackson, National Grid project engineer, said: "Our work in Wandsworth will help ensure that local people continue to enjoy safe and reliable gas supplies which help keep them warm throughout the autumn and winter months.
"We're doing all we can to deliver this essential work as smoothly as possible with minimal disruption to the local community and roadusers."
National Grid is currently replacing ageing metallic gas mains with tough new pipes made of more durable material across the capital. Work is scheduled to take place in the Wandsworth area until summer 2015.
The latest and most efficient technology is being used to deliver the work to minimise disruption and noise levels. New pipes are being inserted into the old ones wherever possible. This reduces the need for digging and minimises any disruption to road users and residents.
The work should not result in any interruption to the local gas supply and the National Grid team shouldn't require access to any properties in the area.
The local community and surrounding businesses will be kept informed about the progress of the project.
