Labor Import Is Not Solution, Says Estonian PM
OREANDA-NEWS. October 17, 2014. Although Estonian Prime Minister Taavi Roivas said he agrees with the majority of the ideas put forward in the Estonian Employers Confederation's manifesto that was issued, he does not think that the import of migrant workers is a valid solution to the impending labor shortage.
In the manifesto the employers said that they expect the government to implement measures that would help to create a multicultural leadership and working environment in Estonia, and encourages the inclusion of workers from abroad and non-native speakers from Estonia itself.
"Increasing the productivity and inclusion of our own people, and their wages accordingly - we still have a lot of potential here. We are naturally not against including experts and talent from abroad, but this is not the only viable solution. We have enough people here who can to a splendid job," said Prime Minister Roivas in response to the employers' proposal.
