Cargo Handling Volumes of Sea Port of Saint-Petersburg Increase by 7%
OREANDA-NEWS. Within 9 months of 2014 OJSC "Sea Port of Saint-Petersburg" (SP SPb) handled 6.2 mln tons at its berths which exceeds by 7% the indicators of the same period of the last year.
Handling volumes of general cargoes of the company increased by 8% up to 4.6 mln tons, volumes of loose and bulk cargoes grew by 5% up to 1.6 mln tons. Handling volumes of ferrous metals increased by 16% and amounted to 1.7 mln tons which is caused by the growth of export of steel by metal manufacturers of Russia due to the change of national currency rate and favorable market situation.
Handling of non-ferrous metals decreased by 25% to 0.9 mln tons due to the reduction of delivery volumes of aluminium of the main shippers.
Within the reporting period the amount of handled automotive equipment main share of which includes import cars decreased by 36% to 22.7 thousand units. It reflects main general tendencies of Russian car market.
Handling volumes of mineral fertilizers preserved at the same level as during the last year and amounted to 0.9 mln tons.
The company also handled 13.1 thousand tons of food products. SP SPb started to develop this sphere in the second quarter of this year and plans to develop it further.
In general within the period from January to September of this year export of SP SPb increased by 13% and amounted to 5.1 mln tons of various cargoes, import decreased by 12% to 1.1 mln tons. Export share amounts to 82%, import share amounts to 18% in the structure of turnover of the company.
OJSC "Sea Port of Saint-Petersburg" (included in UCL Port - stevedoring division of the International transportation group UCL Holding) - is the largest operator, rendering services on handling of all types of dry cargoes in the Greater Port of Saint-Petersburg. It operates by modern specialized terminals for handling of ro-ro cargoes, cars and metals. In 2013 the turnover of OJSC "Sea Port of Saint-Petersburg" amounted to 7.8 mln. tons of cargoes.
