OREANDA-NEWS. October 14, 2014. The Romanian government today donated almost 140 transports units for Moldovan schools, public institutions and theatres, the government’s communication and media relations department has reported.

The donation ceremony was held on the Great National Assembly Square, in the presence of Moldovan and Romanian Prime Ministers Iurie Leanca and, respectively, Victor Ponta. One hundred mini-buses for pupils, 3 buses for theatres and 35 cars for public institutions were donated in all.

Leanca thanked the Romanian government for this friendly gesture and highlighted that the donation would contribute to modernising Moldova. „Over the past 15 months, we have managed to strengthen the ties between Moldova and Romania. We were backed to find modern solutions to problems in various sectors: education, culture, medicine, etc. These are concrete unprecedented support elements,” Leanca said.

For his part, Victor Ponta stressed that he was for the sixth time in Chisinau and he came with open heart each time. „We must be friends for better or worse,” Ponta said. The official added that Romania would further support Moldova, so that it could join the European Union.

Those 100 mini-buses are meant for district gymnasiums and lyceums, in order to support the modernisation of the education system and will ensure safe and comfortable transport of pupils to schools they study. Three mini-buses of those 100 were provided to the Transnistria-based Moldova-run schools. The beneficiary institutions were selected by the Education Ministry, on the basis of applications forwarded by the District Education, Youth and Sports Departments.

Those three donated buses were given to the Maria Biesu National Opera and Ballet Theatre, Eugene Ionesco National Theatre and Satiricus I.L. Caragiale Theatre.

Other 35 Dacia Duster trademark cars will be provided to public institutions, so that the services they provide be more operative and qualitative.

On 27 August 2014, the Romanian government donated 15 cars to Moldovan social institutions. The total cost of both donations exceeds 4 million euros.
