Steam Turbine Assembly Is under Way in Leningrad NPP-2 Turbine Hall
OREANDA-NEWS. Today, the specialists have set four low pressure cylinder rotors and a high pressure cylinder rotor in the bearing supports.
The steam turbine is designed for converting thermal energy into mechanical energy. It weighs more than 2,500 tons, having a length of 53 meters. Today, the specialists of MSU-90 started aligning the turbine rotors by coupling flanges and positions of the rotor bearings relative to the oil bores. Termination of the main installation works in the first power unit turbine building is scheduled for March 2015.
The steam turbine operation principle is to convert the thermal energy of the steam coming from the steam generator into the kinetic energy of the steam flow. The steam actuates the turbine blades and rotates its shaft, while rendering some of its energy.
