Russian Car Market in September Sees Decline in Sales by 20.1%
OREANDA-NEWS. According to the Association of European Businesses, sales of passenger cars and light commercial vehicles in Russia in September fell by 20.1% compared to September of 2013 and they were 197,233 vehicles. By the results of the first 9 months of 2014 the Russian car market declined by 13%, since the beginning of the year it was sold only 1,779,947 vehicles.
As noted in the AEB, September sales showed a clear improvement compared to August, however, the overall dynamics of the Russian car market remains quite weak. In the remaining months of the year the current negative trends will be softened a bit, thanks to government measures to support the production of cars. "But despite this, we do not expect fundamental changes in the market trend in the fourth quarter of 2014," - commented the chairman of Automobile Manufacturers Committee of the AEB, Joerg Schreiber. Current forecast of AEB is the same: in 2014 the Russian market of cars and light commercial vehicles will be 2.45 million units, which is less by 12% than the last year.
Leadership in the Russian car market is kept by AvtoVAZ, which sold in September 36,513 vehicles, which is less by 9% than a year ago. Second place by sales is belonged to Renault - sales of 15406 vehicles (-11%). Hyundai is in the third place of the ranking of the September sales, whose result was 15398 vehicles (-10%). Fourth place of ranking is occupied by Kia - Korean brand cars were chosen by 14,501 buyers (-19%). Toyota closes the top-five of leaders, which sold 13067 cars (-5%). It is worth noting that the whole top-10 of the best-buy brands in September showed the "minus" in comparison with the YOY basis: Nissan (11844 units, -21%), VW (8830 units, -35%), Chevrolet (8260 units, -49%), Skoda (7294 units, -6%), Mitsubishi (6304 units, -2%).
