Infrabel Attracts 12,000 Visitors on Open Business Day
OREANDA-NEWS. On Sunday 5 October, around 12,000 people flocked to the 12 Infrabel sites which opened their doors as part of the Open Business Day. Those who were simply curious or passionate about the railways were able to see behind the scenes of our signalling systems as well as our Infrastructure Logistics Centres (ILCs) and the ROC (Traffic Control & RDV). The visits focused on the theme of railway safety and jobs.
A successful fifth edition
Thanks to the mobilisation of hundreds of our staff members, Infrabel's "Open Business Day" was a great success. The 6 signalling systems, the ROC and 5 maintenance facilities (ILCs) saw a constant stream of people, which was a sign of the visitors' interest in the railway world. In total, taking into account every site, Infrabel welcomed almost 12,000 people on Sunday. In Wallonia, the Mons Logistics Centre was a particular success, while in Flanders the Ghent sites attracted the most visitors.
Whether by following specially organised guided tours, climbing aboard locomotives or taking part in certain demonstrations, the public was able to find out just what it takes to manage the more than 4,000 trains and some 9,000km of tracks that make up our network on a daily basis. The day was a real success, made possible thanks to the enthusiasm of our staff.

Railway safety
Once again, these visits focused on the essential theme of safety. Everyone could see how this issue represents a priority for the company and is the driving force behind the jobs performed every day by the 12,500 Infrabel employees.
Railway jobs
Emphasis was also placed on our jobs, which had a clear aim: to inspire careers. At every site, a "Jobs Info stand" gave us the chance to answer questions with regard to opportunities available to both engineers and technicians. By the end of 2014, Infrabel needs to recruit 550 new employees.
