Kazakhstan & Caribbean Countries Relations to Reach New Level
OREANDA-NEWS. September 30, 2014. During his visit to New York Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan Erlan Idrissov has held bilateral talks with foreign colleagues and leaders of major international organizations.
E. Idrissov participated in the meeting of foreign ministers of the countries of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM). He held an informal meeting with the foreign ministers of the group G7 +, uniting 20 post-conflict countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America.
Bilateral meetings of the Kazakh Foreign Minister had a wide geographical coverage and included the countries of Asia, Africa, Europe and the Caribbean Basin. E. Idrissov met with Afghan Foreign Minister Z. Osmani, Angola - J. Chikoti, Burundi - L. Kavakuri, Comoros - E-A. Said Hassane, Nepal - M.Bahadur, Czech Republic - L. Zaoralek.
The parties discussed issues of cooperation, cooperation in the framework of international organizations, Kazakhstan's bid for a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for 2017-2018, exchanged views on topical issues of the international agenda.
Kazakh FM also held substantive talks with the Secretary General of the Council of Europe T. Jagland, UNESCO Director-General I. Bokova, as well as with Deputy Secretary General of the UN G. Acharya. The sides discussed issues of further expansion of cooperation and specific projects in their areas.
The meeting with the foreign ministers of the group G7 was very interesting and fruitful. E. Idrissov gave a brief outline of Kazakhstan becoming politically stable, dynamically developing country, reputable and reliable partner of the international community, at the same time pointing to the country's real contribution to global security in the field of energy, environment, nuclear non-proliferation, Afghanistan reconstruction, participation in peacekeeping missions, and also great potential in the issue of substantive support of food security. Representatives of the foreign ministers of the G7 group welcomed the bid of Kazakhstan for non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for 2017-2018.
No less interesting and useful was the participation in the annual meeting of the Foreign Ministers of CARICOM. Kazakh Minister briefed colleagues on a long-term strategy of development of Kazakhstan until 2050, major foreign policy initiatives, the concept of the foreign policy of the Republic of Kazakhstan for 2014-2020. He noted that Kazakhstan is interested in expanding its diplomatic presence in Latin America and the Caribbean Basin’s region.
E. Idrissov drew attention to the similarity of the positions of Kazakhstan and CARICOM countries on many issues, in particular, in an effort to transition to "green" economy. In this regard, the Minister invited his colleagues to take part in the EXPO 2017 in Astana, the details of which was presented during a special presentation on behalf of the JSC "National Company" EXPO-2017".
