OREANDA-NEWS. September 29, 2014. Power Machines OJSC has manufactured and shipped a hydroturbine runner, designed for hydropower unit 3 at Ust-Kamenogorskaya HPP.

The contract, which covers manufacture and supply of a runner, was signed between the power engineering company and AES Ust-Kamenogorskaya HPP LLP, Kazakhstan, in July 2013.

Power Machines are now working on another order for Ust-Kamenogorskaya HPP, manufacturing a hydroturbine runner with mounting aids for hydropower unit 2. A respective contract was signed between the companies this June.

The replacement of the runners will result in a 10 MW increase in the capacity of each hydroturbine in Ust-Kamenogorskaya HPP.  The efficiency of the hydroturbines will also increase from 93.0% to 96.1%.

Ust-Kamenogorskaya HPP is located in Kazakhstan, twelve kilometres upstream the town of Ust-Kamenogorsk on the Irtysh River. It is the middle step of the Irtysh HPP system with Bukhtarminskaya HPP upstream and Shulbinskaya HPP downstream. Ust-Kamenogorskaya HPP was put into operation in the mid-1950s when four hydropower units were installed, which were equipped by Leningradsky Metallichesky Zavod and Electrosila, that are now part of Power Machines.
