OREANDA-NEWS. September 23, 2014. Train fares in the passenger system operated by Elron will rise in November, with some lines seeing a 10-12 percent increase and others spared a hike. Officials for the state-owned company say train travel will remain the cheapest mode of transport in the country.

The lines from Tallinn-Tartu and Tallinn-Narva, will increase 12.3 and 10.1 percent respectively, with a trip to Tartu costing an even 10 euros starting in November. But the 50 km segment from Jogeva to Tartu will not see a price increase, CEO Andrus Ossip said, Delfi reported.

The reason for the hike announced September 18 and effective November 15, he said, was that Elron had increased frequency of service to meet public demand.

Ossip said that two-thirds of passengers currently do not use opportunities for discounts, which could save them 10 percent.
