ArcelorMittal Invests into Pulverized Coal Injection System
OREANDA-NEWS. PJSC ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih invests more than 70 mln USD into the construction of pulverized coal injection system at Blast Furnace #9, that is the biggest Blast Furnace in Europe. Installation of pulverized coal injection system at PJSC ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih will allow excluding usage of natural gas within hot metal producing, and also reducing coke usage.
The project includes construction systems of reception, storage and transporting of coal. The commissioning of two mills with a total capacity of 83 tons of coal dust per hour is planned for grinding of raw materials up to the required fraction. Also, in the frames of the project, the filters will be used to separate air and dust. From separate bunkers dust-fuel will be distributed by lances of the Blast Furnace through nozzles injecting directly into the furnace.
Vladyslav Lystopadov, Director of Sinter Department of PJSC ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih:"Currently the plant uses approximately 50 m3 of natural gas per ton of hot metal. Due to the constant rising cost of energy carriers, especially natural gas, we have decided to develop the project on the installation of pulverized coal injection system and the providing of energy saving technologies at PJSC ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih. Installation of pulverized coal injection system will give us the opportunity to reduce the usage of natural gas to zero and significantly decrease the usage of coke in the blast furnace process".
In frames of the implementation of the project, the general project of placing of objects of pulverized coal injection system is ready, development of technical and operational documentation is in process. Project documentation for dust-preparatory section of fuel injection system is developing by the specialists of "Danieli" international company. SE "Energostal" (Kharkiv) provides the development of documentation for the construction of reception, storage and transportation of coal. Project documentation for the communications system for the supply of energy carriers is done by Central Engineering Department of PJSC ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih.
The start of an active phase of construction pulverized coal injection system at the blast furnace №9 is scheduled for November 2014. Integration testing and completion of construction of installation of pulverized coal injection system is expected in August 2015, then the trial operation of the equipment will begin.
