Disposable Income of Moldovans Increases by 5.3%
OREANDA-NEWS. September 18, 2014. According to the National Bureau of statistics, in real terms (adjusted by the consumer price index) income of population has not changed in comparison with the same period of 2013.
Salary remained the most important source of income, accounting for 43% of the total income. Its contribution decreased by 0.7 percentage points compared to the same period of 2013. Social benefits were the second most important source of income in this period, accounting for 18.8% of the total income of citizens, remaining at the level of the same period of 2013.
Income from self-employment accounted for 16% of total disposable income, including income from individual agricultural activity which amounted to 10.4% of the total disposable income, and income from the private non-farm activities which made up 5.6%. Remittances from abroad remained an important source of income - their share accounted for 17.3%, increasing by 0.9 percentage points compared with the second quarter of 2013. Income of population in the urban areas made up 634,8 lei (1.4 times more) than in the rural area.
The main source of income of citizens in the rural area was wages, which provides 55,6% (59% in the second quarter of 2013) of income and social benefits of 17.1% (16,9%). In rural areas the most important source of income was wages, which accounted for 29.5 percent, but its share in the income structure of the population is almost 2 times lower than in the urban areas. The share of income from agricultural activity accounted for 20.2 per cent of the disposable income of the rural population of Moldova.
The rural population compared to urban increasingly dependent on the remittances from abroad, which share in total revenues amounted to 22.3% (vs. 12.6% of the urban population) and social benefits-20.7% (compared to 17.1% of the urban population). The income structure of population is dominated by the revenue in monetary terms - 90,1%, and the income in kind-9.9%. Monetary terms revenue account for 96.7% of income of the urban population, and 83.1% of the rural population income.
