OREANDA-NEWS. September 15, 2014. NTT Electronics has been shortlisted in the Content & Communication Infrastructure category of the IABM Design & Innovation Awards. The awards will be casting the spotlight on new solutions or products that bring benefit or create new opportunities to the broadcast and media industry.

NTT Electronics’ award entry was based on its NA8000 offering an IP Gateway with a superior error correction algorithm called LDGM (Low Density Generation Matrix) codes, which will be a part of MPEG-H, ISO/IEC23008-10. NTT Network Innovation Labs has been involved in the standardization.

Peter White, Chief Executive, IABM says: “We’re delighted to announce the shortlisted candidates in our nine categories and highlight these pioneering products and services. Overall, the number and quality of entries are truly indicative of the talent and creativity inherent in the industry today. And, as we transition through some significant change, innovation and forward thinking have never been more important.”

“NA8000 converts DVB-ASI to IP packets, and vice vasa, as well as correcting lost packets using LDGM FEC (Forward Error Correction)" said Hisashi Kasahara, General Manager of the Digital Video & Systems Business Group of NTT Electronics. “Recently, more and more video contents are transmitted over IP network. However, dedicated IP network is still expensive and unmanaged IP network is a best-effort and unstable service. Our NA8000 incorporates efficient and robust FEC algorithm LDGM codes and corrects the partially lost IP packets much better than the traditional algorithms like Pro-MPEG 2D. This means that one can easily utilize relatively economical unmanaged IP network for transmission of video contents. Broadcasters and video service providers will handle more UHDTV(Ultra High Definition Television) contents in the near future, and this ‘Plug and Play’ NA8000 helps saving OPEX especially in such cases.”

Shortlisted entries will be judged by a panel of independent specialists chaired by John Ive, Director of Business Development and Technology, IABM. Winners will be announced at the IABM reception and awards ceremony at IBC in Amsterdam on Saturday, 13 September at 18h30.
