OREANDA-NEWS. September 11, 2014. PT Pertamina (Persero) through its subdiary, PT Geothermal Energy, cooperates with the consortium of Sumitomo-Rekayasa Industri (Rekin) to work on the Ulubelu 3&4 projects.

Pertamina Corporate Communication Vice President Ali Mundakir said that PGE had signed cooperation to conduct engineering, procurement and construction for the Ulubelu 3&4 projects with the Sumitomo-Rekin consortium. According to him, the cooperation to build 2x55 MW geothermal power plants (PLTPs) was part of Pertamina’s effort to accelerate the development of geothermal.

“Ulubelu 3 is expected to finish in 2016 and be ready to supply eco-friendly electricity to Lampung and the surrounding areas. For the unit 4, we also hope that it can begin operation soon after unit 3 is on stream. This is part of Pertamina’s effort to increase the utilization of renewable energy in the country,” he said.

Ali continued that in this project, funded by World Bank, PGE was no longer just selling steam like in Ulubelu 1 and 2. For unit 3 and 4, he added, PGE would produce electricity and sell it to PLN.

Previously, PGE president director Ronny Gunawan said that his company would complete around 10 projects until 2018. Some of the projects, in addition to Ulubelu 3&4, are PLTP Kamojang unit 5 with a total capacity of 35 MW which is expected to be on stream in 2015, Karaha unit 1 with a total capacity of 30 MW on stream on 2016, Lumut Balai 1&2 with a total capacity of 2x55 MW on stream in 2016 and Hululais 1&2 with a total capacity of 2x55 MW on stream in 2017 and 2018.
