OREANDA-NEWS.  September 10, 2014. Last week the Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS Russia) started unscheduled inspections of the largest domestic poultry producers. The inspections were carried out upon numerous reports on increased retail prices for this category of goods.

To execute the instructions of the Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation, Dmitry Medvedev, FAS organized a “hot line” at its official web-site on the issues of growing food products prices. Since it was launched on 15th August 2014, FAS has received over 1200 electronic messages about increased retail prices for food products, majority of which concern poultry.

Poultry is the largest segment of the meat market. In 2013 Russian poultry production was 3.83 million tons; 572,000 tons were imported (13% of the overall consumption). The main importers before introducing sanctions were the USA, Belarus, Brazil and Ukraine.
