OREANDA-NEWS. September 08, 2014. The aggregate throughput of Klaipeda Port and at Butinges terminal in January – July of 2014 totalled 24,5 mln tn of seaborne cargo: 3,9 mln tn were handled at Butinges Terminal (the year-on-year change was -26,2 pct. or -1 385,7 thou. tn) and 20,6 mln tn were handled in Klaipeda Seaport (the year-on-year change was +3,1 pct. or +622,6 mln tn).

The turnover of Klaipeda seaport in July of 2014 increased by 4,8 pct., totally 2 814,1 thou. tn, i.e. more by 128,6 thou. tn comparing with July of 2013 were handled. Such result was achieved due to increased handling rates of fertilizers, containerised and Ro-Ro cargoes: 1 086,7 thou. tn (the yoy change was +64,5 pct. or +425,9 thou. tn), 424,0 thou. tn (the yoy change was +2,7 pct. or +11,3 thou. tn) and 391,0 thou. tn (the yoy change was +5,7 pct. or +21,0 thou. tn) were respectively handled.

The increase of Klaipeda seaport cargo handling throughput was achieved due to the handling results of the most abundant cargo of the seaport – fertilizers (bulk, liquid and packed) with the turnover reaching 7 182,7 thou. tn (the change was +33,04 pct. or 1 783,9 thou. tn. comparing January - July of 2013).  The turnover of containerised cargoes also saw an increase, 3 201,5 thou. tn were handled (the change was +21,2 pct. or 562,2 thou. tn more than in January – July of 2013).

In January – July of 2014 the turnover of dry and bulk cargo constituting 46 pct. of the overall cargo turnover of Klaipeda seaport increased rather rapidly: totally 9 527,0 thou. tn, i.e. more by +21,4 pct. or by +1 680,0 thou. tn than in January – July of 2013 were handled. This result was achieved basically due to increased even by 41,4 pct. throughput of bulk natural and chemical fertilizers – 6 100,9 thou. tn were transhiped (the yoy change was +1 787,2 thou. tn).

The handling of ores also marked the rapid increase in January- July of 2014: 750,8 thou. tn were handled ( the yoy change was +84,7 pct. or +344,2 thou. tn). The handling rates of other categories of cargo making impact on the throughput in this cargo group dropped down: 1 169,9 thou. tn of agriculture products ( the yoy change was -12,1 pct. or -160,9 thou. tn) and -844,1 thou. tn of raw and processed minerals, construction materials (the yoy change was -30,2 pct.. or -365,7 thou. tn) were handled.

The turnover of liquid cargo cutting out 22 pct. of the overall cargo turnover of the seaport dropped down rather significantly in January – July of 2014 comparing with the corresponding period of the last year : totally 3 697,24 425,6 thou. tn were handled (the yoy change was -25,6 pct. or -1 523,9 thou. tn). Significantly contracted transhipment of oil products and liquid fertilizers made the greatest impact on the decreased handling rates of liquid cargo: 3 392,4 thou. tn of oil products (the yoy change was -29,9 pct. or -1 445,8 thou. tn) and 787,3 thou. tn of liquid fertilizers  (the yoy change was -7,9 pct. or -67,9 thou. tn) were transhipped during the analysed period.

In January – July of 2014 the throughput of general cargoes constituting 32 pct. of the overall cargo turnover of the seaport increased by +7,6 pct. or by +466,6 thou. tn to 6 618,3 thou. tn.  The throughput of packed fertilizers attributed to this cargo group increased even by +28,1 pct.: totally 294,5  thou. tn were handled( the yoy change was  +64,6 thou. tn). In line the significant rise of containerized cargo volumes was recordedWithin the analysed period: totally 3 210,5 thou. tn were handled (the yoy change was +21,2 pct. or +562,2 thou. tn). Meanwhile transportation of Ro-Ro cargoes (2 587,0 thou. tn were handled, the yoy change was -4,1 pct. or -110,6 thou. tn) and the handling volumes of  timber and forest products (250,0 thou. tn were handled, the yoy change was -15,6 pct. or -46,3 thou. tn) attributed to this cargo group and making impact of the overall turnover of the seaport significantly dropped down.
Altogether 3 846 vessels were reported to call Klaipeda Port and Butinges terminal in January – July of 2014. 39 vessels moored at Butinges terminal and Klaipeda Seaport received 3 807 vessels (less by -0,3 pct. or by -10 vessels comparing with the corresponding period of 2013 ).

The number of passengers within the analysed period was 200 976 passengers, i.e. less by -18,5 pct. or by -31 371 passenger comparing with January - July of 2013.

Cruise shipping. 41 cruise liner moored in Klaipeda seaport in January- July of 2014, i.e. more by +83,3 pct. or by +13 cruise ships than in January - July of 2013. Consequently the number of cruise passengers increased: 37 729 passengers arrived to the seaport (more by +76,6 pct. or by +16 360 passengers).
