OREANDA-NEWS. September 05, 2014. Deputy Economics Minister Octavian Calmic met Hungarian Deputy Minister of External Economy and Foreign Affairs Peter Szijjarto.

The sides discussed the implementation of the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Agreement by Moldova, launching investment projects in the energy sector, in area of developing small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), transport infrastructure, etc., the Economics Ministry’s information and media communication service has reported.

This meeting was a good occasion to exchange opinions on prospects of economic cooperation between Moldova and Hungary, in the context of the new trade regime which entered into force on 1 September 2014, as well as the setting of an agenda for the next meeting on the platform of the joint intergovernmental commission, due in Chisinau on 25-26 September 2014. During this event, the sides plan to sign bilateral agreements in such areas as: health, food safety, tourism, finances, environment, etc.

Octavian Calmic also made a presentation of the economic situation in Moldova, trade ties with Hungary and underlined the need to foster them. As for investment opportunities in Moldova, Calmic highlighted that the government’s effort was focused on attracting private capital, via more instruments, into the energy sector. Especially, it is about the modernisation and development of power distribution networks, energy efficiency and transport infrastructure projects, assistance programmes for SMEs, regional development projects, etc.

For his part, Peter Szijjarto emphasised that the Hungarian authorities were opened for cooperation with Moldova, assuring that he would contribute to a more intense dialogue in the months to come, including by organising business meetings in partnership with the Moldovan Economics Ministry, through which all collaboration opportunities would be identified and promoted.
