Phase I of Haiyang Nuclear Project to Begin Operation in 2016
OREANDA-NEWS. September 03, 2014. Yantai State Grid Corporation said it expects the first phase of a USD13 billion nuclear power project in China to commence operation in 2016, state press agency Xinhua reported.
A total of six nuclear reactor units are planned for the Haiyang Nuclear Station project in the Shandong Province, which is being built in several stages. Haiyang Phase I is comprised of two Westinghouse AP100 nuclear reactors, which combined will generate 2,200 megawatts.
Phase II will include another two AP1000 reactors with the same total capcity as Phase I. Westinghouse reports there are currently eight AP1000 units under construction worldwide - two each at the Vogtle and V.C. Summer sites in the U.S. and the Sanmen and Haiyang sites in China.
Mainland China currently has 21 nuclear power reactors in operation and 27 under construction, according to the World Nuclear Association.
