LAX Releases USD 15,42 mn for Eligible Noise-Mitigation Project
OREANDA-NEWS. September 03, 2014. The Los Angeles Board of Airport Commissioners authorized a Letter of Agreement between Los Angeles World Airports and Los Angeles County for its Residential Sound Insulation Grant Program and to release USD 15.42 million for an eligible noise-mitigation project.
The LAWA grant, combined with a USD5-million grant from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), will enable the County of Los Angeles to soundproof 624 dwelling units in the Athens, Del Air, and Lennox communities that are impacted by operations at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX).
The project cost covers acoustical, architectural, engineering, construction and administrative activities. Construction contractors typically install double-paned windows, solid-core doors, fireplace doors and dampers, attic baffles, insulation, and other elements to achieve a targeted interior noise level of 45 decibels. The work is expected to take less than 15 months to complete.
Los Angeles County has operated a sound insulation program since the early 1990s and has received noise-mitigation funds from both Los Angeles World Airports and the FAA since the program’s inception. To date, LAWA has awarded USD 66 million in sound-insulation grants and the FAA has awarded USD 62 million to the county, for a total of USD 128 million.
