Japan Grants USD 100 mn of Macro-Financial Assistance for Ukraine
OREANDA-NEWS. September 02, 2014. The Government of Ukraine has fulfilled all the conditions to receive the next tranche of the International Monetary Fund and we expect a positive decision during today's meeting of the Board of the IMF Governors, said the Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk.
Arseniy Yatsenyuk informed that the Government of Japan had taken a decision on the granting for Ukraine USD 100 million of macro-financial assistance: "Today we are to receive the 100 million dollars."
The Prime Minister also highlighted that the Ukrainian Government has satisfied every set condition to receive another IMF tranche. He reminded that an issue of granting such assistance to Ukraine would be considered during a meeting of the Board of Governors of the International Monetary Fund in Washington today: "We hope this decision will be positive and that the IMF and the entire world will demonstrate support for Ukraine".
"Overall, Ukraine can receive from the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank the sum of about 2 billion dollars", - said the Head of Government.
Moreover, Arseniy Yatsenyuk accentuated the Government of Ukraine would spare no effort to ensure stabilization of the situation in economy and provides assistance to the National Bank to improve the situation with the currency exchange rate: “A decision of the Board of Governors and obtaining by Ukraine of this significant resource will afford Ukraine to live. It is rather hard for us. There is war in the country. The fact that we don’t get any revenues from Donetsk and Luhansk is nothing as compared to those billions of dollars of losses we suffer from war, ignited by the Russian aggressor and the Russian state. Therefore, it is critical for us to receive a positive decision by the IMF. We've done everything," said Arseniy Yatsenyuk.
"We know that this decision will be difficult, as certain countries don’t want to help Ukraine. But we believe in a positive decision," added the Prime Minister.
