OREANDA-NEWS. September 01, 2014. The project office Mitsubishi Research Institute Inc., which is authorized by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan, announced August 26 results of the open invitation of bids for implementation of a demo project to verify efficiency of the technology for cleaning up liquid radioactive waste (LRW) from tritium.

The bid prepared by RosRAO and the Khlopin Radium Institute (a company of ROSATOM), as well as proposals from GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy Canada Inc. (a joint venture of Hitachi Ltd. (Japan) and General Electric Co (USA)) and Kurion Inc. (USA), was chosen for implementation.

In case the demonstration project is completed successfully and performance characteristics of the treatment facility are experimentally confirmed, RosRAO can pretend for development of a full-scale commercial facility for clean-up of tritium-containing LRW that has accumulated on the site of Fukushima-Daiichi NPP.
