OREANDA-NEWS. Technology is the solution for bringing about change and improvement in any system or process. JUSCO is fast adapting to such changes and making it a part of internal process for improving the systems and thereby conserving key resources. Today Mr Anand Sen, President, TQM & Steel Business, Tata Steel Limited, inaugurated the Sub-surface Drip Irrigation System and Pop-up Sprinkler System at Mughal Garden, Jubilee Park. Mr Ashish Mathur, MD, JUSCO along with Mr Sharad Kumar, Sr. GM (PSD & CRM), Capt. D Mishra, GM (JTO), Mr Deepak P Kamath, GM (HR/IR & Strategy), other Senior Management Team from JUSCO attended the function. From JUSCO Shramik Union Mr Raghunath Pandey, President, JSU, Mr Sri Lal, Mr S L Das, Mr B K Dubey and UCM's were also present. From Tata Steel Mr Ritu Raj Sinha, Chief (Corporate Services) and Mr Rajiv Kumar were present. Representatives from various Social Organizations and Senior Citizen's also attended the function.

Sub-surface drip irrigation system and pop-up sprinkler system

It is a low-pressure, high efficiency irrigation system that uses buried drip tubes or drip tape to meet crop water needs.

It saves water and improves yields by eliminating surface water evaporation and reducing the incidence of weeds and diseases.

It reduces cost upto 40% when compared with traditional irrigation system.

Total project cost is Rs.18.76 Lakhs.

Area covered is 11.75 acres.

With the implementation of this new system, the irrigation time will reduce to 2.6 hrs per day as against the earlier time of 14-15 hrs per day. The water consumption will also reduced drastically from 7.50 Lakhs Litres per day to 4.50 Lakhs Litres per day - saving of approx. 3.00 Lakhs Litres per day of raw water.

Apart from the implementation of the above systems, JUSCO has plans to renovate Jubilee park - a landmark of Jamshedpur, gifted by Tata Steel on its 50th anniversary to the citizens of Jamshedpur. Some of the plans are like laying of paver tiles at Mughal Garden, providing stainless steel railing along the steps to avoid safety hazards, replacement of bollard lights along the pathway to improve aesthetic, plantation of matured tress, up-gradation of Laser Show and Musical Fountain with additional features and stories, etc.

Speaking at the function Mr Sen appreciated the initiatives of JUSCO and requested everyone to make individual and collective efforts to save water. This initiative needs to get multiplied 10,000 times but JUSCO alone cannot do the same. It requires collective effort and if we make collective effort then we can make a huge contribution to the society and community at large.

Today water is the scarcest commodity in the world and conserving such key resources will only benefit the environment and society at large. JUSCO in the last 2 years has taken up many such initiatives through technological intervention to conserve key resources like Potable Sewage Treatment Plant, using drain water for road side irrigation purpose through Recharge Pits, Rain Water Harvesting System, Automation of Sewage Pumping Stations, etc.
