Southwest Airlines Makes Connection Between Chicago and Washington
OREANDA-NEWS. August 20, 2014. Southwest Airlines has launched daily nonstop service between Chicago Midway International Airport (MDW) and Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA).
The new service began on August 10, 2014 with six daily roundtrips between MDW and DCA. Beginning September 30, 2014, Southwest will increase service on the route with three additional flights for a total of nine daily roundtrips.
The nonstop flights will bring more than 2,500 seats daily between MDW and DCA.
Today, Southwest hosted a launch event at Midway, with featured speakers and guests including Congressman Dan Lipinski (D-IL 3rd District), Chicago Alderman Michael Zalewski, 23rd Ward/Chairman, City Council Committee on Aviation, Chicago Alderman Edward Burke, 14th Ward/ Chairman of the City Council Committee on Finance and Rosemarie S. Andolino, Commissioner, Chicago Department of Aviation.
"On behalf of Mayor Rahm Emanuel, we are pleased with Southwest's newest route addition of Washington, D.C.", said Commissioner Andolino. "Southwest's continued expansion at Midway provides passengers with a wide variety of travel choices to connect to domestic and international destinations. New service at Chicago's airports helps to achieve the Mayor's goals of increasing business opportunities and hosting 55 million annual visitors in Chicago by 2020. "
Southwest's new service complements the carrier's operations at Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport and Washington Dulles Airport.
