IIAC Signs MOU with ARINC
OREANDA-NEWS. August 20, 2014. Incheon International Airport Corporation (IIAC) concluded a memorandum of understanding with Rockwell Collins’ ARINC (ARINC), a U.S.-based global aviation IT company, in terms of shared check-in system as well as cooperation in other airport IT sectors.
ARINC provides comprehensive IT solution in aviation, rail, aerospace, and national infrastructure sectors, supporting more than 300 airlines and 150 airports around the world.
The MOU is especially significant as it provides the chance to acknowledge not only the know-how of IIAC in winning the Airport Service Quality award for 9 consecutive years, but also the value of shared check-in system, which is the first of its kind to be developed by airport corporation.
Shared check-in system refers to the key infrastructure of airport operation jointly used by airlines to process check-in and boarding. Korea’s then Ministry of Land, Transport, and Maritime Affairs (currently known as the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport) and IIAC succeeded in localization of the system in 2011 and verified its safety through pilot operation in Incheon Airport in from 2012. The existing 26 check-in system were increased to 83 in January 2014.
With the conclusion of the MOU, IIAC and ARINC expect technical cooperation and aim to establish duplex shared check-in system and enhance the safety of check-in service, such that airport operation will not be affected by any emergency situations. Furthermore, plans for joint implementation of passenger and baggage handling IT system in Asia-Pacific region were established and strengthened the cooperative relationship.
