BOC Sits on "Fortune Global 500" List
OREANDA-NEWS. August 19, 2014. Fortune, an American magazine, revealed the 2014 list of "Fortune Global 500". BOC was ranked 59th, up 11 slots as compared with 2013, and it is the only Chinese enterprise that has been listed on the "Fortune Global 500" for 26 straight years.
Those on the list were ranked by business revenue in the fiscal year ended no later than March 31, 2014. This year, the minimum revenue of USD 23.7 billion was required to make the final cut, up USD 0.5 billion over last year. Total revenue of the 500 companies amounted to USD 31 trillion, up 2.5% as compared with last year. Total profits neared USD 2 trillion, up 27% year on year. A total of 100 Chinese enterprises (including those in Hong Kong and Taiwan region) made their way into the list, making China the country with the second most finalists in the ranking, only trailing the US.
55 companies came from the banking industry, the most by sector. BOC was ranked 8th among these banking institutions. In addition, among the top 50 enterprises ranked by profit this year, BOC ranked 11th with USD 25.5 billion.
Founded in 1930, the Fortune magazine has started to release the "Fortune Global 500" list ever since 1954, which has become the most renowned and authoritative ranking of large companies worldwide.
