OREANDA-NEWS. PJSC “ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih" invests USD 83 mln in revamp of BOF shop and construction of new GCPs behind BOFs 4-6. PJSC “ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih" constructs primary gas cooling and cleaning system in BOF shop with implementation of automated environmental monitoring system. This investment project implementation provides an opportunity for PJSC “ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih" to reduce the emissions of pollutants into the air by 2.7 ktpa.

The revamp is aimed at updating BOF steelmaking process - shifting from full BOF gas combustion to suppressed one. This technology facilitates the decreasing of industrial load on environment and will reduce the power consumption by 5 mln kW. Furthermore, GCPs' revamp (behind BOFs) will help to improve the quality of water supplied to the shop and increase the blowing rate and thus ensuring the BOFs' performance enhancing. The expected benefit from construction of closed-loop BOFs' cooling circuit is water flow rate reduction by 100m3/h.

Luish Querubim, chief project engineer (BOF GCPs), I&PM department, PJSC “ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih": "As the largest company of Mining and Steelmaking complex of Ukraine we bindingly work for reducing our impact on the environment. The production efficiency and implementation of projects aimed at environment protection are the priority for our investment programs and AMKR development strategies. The extensive revamp of BOF shop and installation of GCPs behind all the BOFs will allow reducing the water flow rate and power consumption what will result of products' cost decreasing and competitive growth of PJSC “ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih" under tough situation of steelmaking area. However, the main benefit from implementation of this investment project is considerable reduction of pollutants' emissions in the environment since it is extremely important both for Kryvyi Rih and the entire region where PJSC “ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih" facilities are in operation".

The BOF shop revamp scopes envisage the replacement of all the process equipment. In particular, it is planned the following: the construction of two-stage scrubber (the main cleaning is performed in it), as well as the construction of new gas ducts, ID fan house and flare stack for gas combustion. The boosting pump house will be also constructed along with six gas analyzer rooms for gas composition analysis since it is required for both process and environmental indicators' control. At the moment N2 letdown station is constructed. The installation of flare stack and ID fan house is in progress. The foundations for gas ducts and E-room are arranged, as well as foundation pits for boosting pump house and for hydraulic room for lower hood travelling control.

The state-of-the art 600 t crane Liebherr LR 1600/2 is used for installation of crane trestle at the roof of BOF shop. The assembly of the aforesaid crane was performed by “Mammoet" (Holland) team at PJSC “ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih". For rigidity aims the crane is equipped with max 350 t counterbalance weight that is designed like balancing counterweight with 36 m boom which extends within a radius from 10 to 18 m under full load. 20 t overhead crane will be installed at 65 m trestle with the help of Liebherr LR 1600/2 crane. The installed crane will be used for dismantling of obsolete process and GCP equipment of BOFs 4, 5, 6 as well as for installation of new GCPs.

SMS Siemag (Germany) was selected as basic design developer and equipment supplier due to considerable experience of the company team and high quality of products. The further engineering is performed by SE Ukrgirpomez (Dnepropetrovsk). Within the scopes of the project implementation 120 local contractors are working at PJSC “ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih" - they are the employees of construction companies (Kryvyi Rih).

BOF shop of PJSC “ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih" has 6 BOFs in operation. Within the scopes of Phase I of the revamp project in 2012-2016 the works will be performed at BOFs 4, 5, 6. Phase 2 of the investment project implementation envisages the revamp of BOFs 1, 2, 3 of BOF shop in 2016-2019.
