OREANDA-NEWS. Denver International Airport's project to reconstruct a section of Peña Boulevard between Tower Road and E-470 will meet a major construction milestone on Friday, August 15 when outbound (westbound) Peña Boulevard traffic is moved onto newly reconstructed travel lanes. Inbound (eastbound) Peña Boulevard traffic will remain on the current detour route.

The airport is reconstructing a highly traveled section of Peña Boulevard between Second Creek (just west of Tower Road) and E-470 which was experiencing high levels of deterioration.

Workers have completed phase one reconstruction of the inbound lanes and are now preparing to enter phase two with the reconstruction of the outbound Peña Boulevard travel lanes. In order to reconstruct the outbound lanes, workers will move outbound Peña Boulevard traffic onto the newly rebuilt inbound lanes. Inbound traffic will remain on the detour route.

The traffic shift will begin Thursday, August 14 at 10 p.m. and will be in place by Friday, August 15 at 4 a.m. Crews will close one lane of outbound traffic during the traffic switch. Minor traffic impacts are expected.

This USD 9.6 million reconstruction project, which started in May 2014, is on schedule to be complete by mid-November 2014, prior to the busy Thanksgiving holiday.

The speed limit on Peña Boulevard is currently reduced to 45 miles per hour throughout the construction zone. Motorists are strongly encouraged to follow the posted speed limits and allow extra time to travel through the construction zone.

Attached is a map showing the project area and construction phasing. Beginning Friday, August 15, traffic will be placed into the phase two layout.
