OREANDA-NEWS. August 14, 2014. The company was licensed to use MHz 800, MHz 900 and MHz 1800 radio frequency bands (one license for each band) to deliver network and ground mobile communication public services.

The licenses have been issued for 15 years and are valid as from November 6 2014. Moldcell’s current license expires on November 5, 2014. The licenses were handed to Moldcell Director General Mr. Barkin Secen by ANRCETI Director Grigorie Varanita. According to the latter, the licenses give Moldcell and other license holders an opportunity to use a wider radio frequency spectrum, which will help the companies ensure sustainable development of their networks.

“The better wave propagation in the 800 MHz frequency range and the developed LTE system in the 1800 MHz frequency range enables Moldcell to make the building of its mobile wideband 4G network less costly and to improve its coverage" Grigorie Varanita said. According to the Moldcell Director General, obtaining the new licenses will help Moldcell, a member of Telia Soniera, provide Moldova’s customers with better technologies and services.

He was confident that the company’s investment will be beneficial for Moldova’s electronic communication sector and for people. ANRCETI granted the licenses to Moldcell in line with provisions of the 2013-2020 Program for Radio Frequency Management Program, adopted by the Government of Moldova on February 11, 2013. In line with the Program, the licenses on use of resources of the 800 MHz, 900 MHz and 1800 MHz radio frequency bands are provided directly to providers if they have had their own networks and delivered mobile communication services on a legal basis.

The Program also defines the license fee sizes. In total, by buying the three licenses Moldcell replenished the state budget of Moldova with the equivalent to EUR 25.5 million. One more provider – Orange Moldova – was granted the similar licenses this month and transferred to the budget the same amount of money.

Before August 25, ANRCETI is going to issue 2 licenses to Moldtelecom for the company to use resources of the 900 MHz and 1800 MHz bands. In line with the ANRCETI resolution dated July 25 on issuing the license requested by Moldtelecom, the licenses will become available for the company immediately after it pays the license fee, which has to be paid within 30 days after the adoption of the resolution.
