OREANDA-NEWS. August 11, 2014. During the press conference, answering the journalists ' questions about a possible reduction in the basic refinancing rate, the NBM President Dorin Dragutanu said that since the beginning of the year, the regulator has twice lowered the forecast on inflation for the next 2 years.

"Today disinflation risks are higher than inflation. None of the Central Banks increases the base rate in situation when inflation is declining," said Dorin Dragutanu. As it was previously reported, the basic refinancing rate more than a year remains at the level of 3.5%.

The last time the NBM modified the base refinancing rate at the end of April 2013, with a drop from 4.5% to 3.5%. Prior to that, the National Bank reduced its only in the end of February 2012, from 6.5% to 4.5% p.a. In the following months, the rate was kept at the same level until the end of April 2013.
