Moldovan, Turkish Premiers Discuss Bilateral Ties
OREANDA-NEWS. August 11, 2014. Prime Minister Iurie Leanca had a phone conversation with his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the government’s communication and media relations department has reported.
Recep Tayyip Erdogan congratulated the Moldovans for signing of the Association Agreement with the EU, noting that the accord would bring prosperity and well-being to all citizens of the country.
The officials also discussed the bilateral ties, situation in Moldova, including in the southern Gagauz region. They pointed out the role the Gagauz people played in the Moldovan-Turkish relations and highlighted the importance of the region’s development within prosperous and European Moldova.
The sides welcomed the initiation of a dialogue between Moldovan MPs and local representatives within the Popular Assembly of Gagauz-Yeri. In the context, Leanca noted that a working group had been created, six joint meetings had been held and, as a result, a draft law providing for amendment of 20 laws of the region had been worked out. At the same time, the draft law on special legal status of Gagauz-Yeri was prepared to be voted in the second reading by the parliament.
Leanca invited Recep Tayyip Erdogan to pay a visit to Moldova. The Turkish prime minister accepted the invitation, noting that the visit might take place in next autumn.
