OREANDA-NEWS. August 08, 2014. As the Minister of agriculture and food industry Vasile Bumacov informed, this year was sown 456 thousand ha of cereal crops: 315,5 thousand ha of wheat, 60 thousand ha of barley, 30 thousand ha of rapeseed, 35 thousand ha of spring barley.

The average yield in 2014 amounted to 3.5 tons per ha vs. 3.1 t/ha in 2013. According to the Minister, of the total sown wheat 65% - is the food wheat. About 350 tons will be used in the local market, 300 tons will be exported, and 400 thousand tons of fodder wheat will be used in the livestock sector.

According to the Deputy Minister, this year it is also expected to receive good harvest of corn (1,4 million tons), sunflower (500 thousand tons) and sugar beet (500 thousand tons).
