OREANDA-NEWS. August 08, 2014. Over 900 young people will begin their apprenticeship with ThyssenKrupp. It takes the total number of apprenticeship places in the Group in Germany to around 3,400, slightly higher than in 2013.

“We are delighted that so many young people have chosen ThyssenKrupp as their apprenticeship provider. Well-trained skilled workers are the basis for innovation and progress,” said Oliver Burkhard, CHRO of ThyssenKrupp AG. The dual system of vocational education and training is a key success factor for the industrial group. From office clerk to chemical laboratory worker to materials tester to machinist, ThyssenKrupp offers well over 50 different apprenticeship occupations in Germany.

The apprenticeship training rate has been steady at 5.6 percent for many years. Of the young people who finished their apprenticeships in 2013, 73% were retained. Most of ThyssenKrupp’s apprenticeship places continue to be in North Rhine-Westphalia, where over 60 percent of the Group’s apprentices complete their 3-year programs with various subsidiaries. In this way the Group is also meeting its responsibility for the region, said Burkhard.

ThyssenKrupp has around 161,000 employees in just under 80 countries working with passion and expertise to develop solutions for sustainable progress. Their skills and commitment are the basis of our success. In fiscal year 2012/2013 ThyssenKrupp generated sales of around €39 billion.
