Moldova Will Address to VTO according RF Sanctions
OREANDA-NEWS. August 07, 2014. This conclusion can be drawn from the message of the press-service of the government of Moldova on the results of the working meeting held by the Prime Minister Iurie Leanca on Tuesday during which legal and commercial aspects of the decision of the Russian government on application of import duties to a number of Moldovan goods from September 1, 2014, and on application of non-tariff barriers on the products of plant origin from Moldova were examined.
As its is noted in the press release, during the meeting the responsible persons from the ministries of foreign Affairs and European integration, economy, agriculture and food industry, as well as the heads of the Customs service, the National Agency for food safety presented the results of the analysis of decisions of the Russian authorities. According to the officials, Moldova performs all trade obligations, agreed on the bilateral level with Russia and within CIS framework.
At the same time, the decision of the government of Russian Federation on change of conditions of import of products from Moldova is unreasonable and contrary to the agreements between both countries, and within CIS framework. The message specifies that Moldova advocates for a constructive dialogue with all trade partners of the country. At the same time, it is emphasized that the Prime Minister Iurie Leanca called on the competent authorities to intensify dialogue with partners from Russia on this issue, arranging consultations both on bilateral basis and within international trade and economic organizations, members of which include Moldova and Russia, in order to find legal solutions, reasoned from a trading point of view, to overcome the situation.
Earlier the Director General of the National Agency for food safety Ion Sula said that Moldova intends to apply to WTO regarding Russia's decision to ban the import of Moldovan fresh and canned fruits and vegetables. The European Union expressed concern about a number of recent decisions of Russian authorities in connection with the prohibition of import of certain Moldovan goods to the Russian market, in particular fruits and called on both sides to resolve issues in accordance with WTO rules, noting that it relies on fast overcoming these trade barriers.
