Tata Power Solar Commissions Largest Rooftop Solar Plant
OREANDA-NEWS. Tata Power Solar, the largest specialized solar EPC player in India, has successfully commissioned a 2 MW rooftop solar plant for Murugan Textiles, the largest power loom producer in India. The solar plant is part of their green initiatives, and is the largest rooftop solar plant in South India.
Speaking on the project, Dr. Arul Shanmugasundaram, EVP Projects and CTO, Tata Power Solar, said, “Rooftop solar power is increasingly being used as a mainstream option for power generation. We are proud to be associated with Murugan Textiles and are confident that the plant will help them manage their power requirement better, while setting an example of clean energy to the entire region.”
The rooftop solar system, built on top of existing spinning mills and a warehouse, is situated in a high-wind region and required considerable structural planning and innovation. Situated across three buildings, with 800 kWp on just a single building, the plant will help displace approximately 2500 tonnes of carbon dioxide (Co2) per annum. The plant is designed for captive consumption and, to avail REC benefits, is connected to the grid through a dedicated feeder at 11KV.
Commenting on the project, Mr. Murugesan, Managing Director, Murugan Textiles, said, “Our engagement with Tata Power Solar has been very satisfactory. Tata Power team treated this project as if it was their own and did everything to get it executed on time. We are extremely satisfied with Tata Power Solar and their commitment. We want to embrace clean energy and set a benchmark for green energy standards within our industry. We already have our next phase of expansion in place and look forward to working with Tata Power Solar on our future projects as well.”
Located in Palladam, Tirupur district of Tamil Nadu, the plant is the first phase of a 3MW project and work on the second phase of 1MW will begin early next year. By generating their own power for the plant, Murugan Textiles aims to be able to manage the plant's power requirements much better, while pioneering the green initiative in the area.
