National Grid Starts Gas Mains Upgrade in Pipeline for Old Cross
OREANDA-NEWS. National Grid starts work to upgrade gas mains in Old Cross, Hertford, and help keep the gas flowing to homes and businesses in the area for many years to come. The work is expected to take around six weeks to complete.
The project involves replacing the existing metal gas mains from the junction of St Andrew Street and Old Cross to outside 23 Old Cross with hardwearing modern plastic pipes that are designed to last for at least 80 years.
To safeguard the public and those working on the project and to enable the work to be completed as quickly as possible, it will be necessary to temporarily replace the existing traffic lights at the junction of St Andrew Street and Old Cross with temporary traffic lights. This will provide a safe working area and maintain access to properties and shops.
National Grid authorising engineer Dilbir Chana said: “We understand that our work may be disruptive, and we're sorry for any inconvenience it may cause. It is, however, essential for us to upgrade the gas mains in Old Cross so that we can continue providing safe and dependable gas supplies in this part of Hertford well into the future.”
