OREANDA-NEWS. August 06, 2014. Incheon Airport expects to set a new record in the number of passengers during this year’s summer peak season period.

The number of daily passengers during the summer peak season(’14.7.19-8.17) is expected to reach 138,237, a 4% increase from last year. On August 3, in particular, more than 150,000 passengers are forecast to use the airport, which is about 2% higher than Incheon Airport’s top record of 147,668 passengers(’13.8.4).

It is expected that the number of passengers departing on international flights – which has the biggest impact on airport congestion – will reach a daily average of 70,000 from the start of the holiday season in the last week of July to the first week of August.

With more passengers expected than in previous years, Incheon International Airport Corporation has designated the 30 days from July 19 to August 17 as a special contingency period. While putting focus on reducing airport congestion and managing emergencies and safety, Incheon International Airport Corporation plans to make full preparations for its operation by forming a special taskforce team to reinforce the personnel.

Incheon International Airport Corporation has been preparing for a crowded airport during summer peak season by expanding its facilities. It has added 18 international check-in counters which are ready for operation, and expanded the security screening area and added 6 security checkpoints. In addition, to ensure a swift security screening process, Incheon Airport will operate some of its security screening areas in the departure hall 30 minutes earlier than usual during the passenger peak period from July 25 to August 10.

In order to reduce traffic congestion, Incheon Airport will post more traffic control attendants on nearby roads while opening more outside parking space to ensure ease of parking.

For passengers arriving late at night, some bus routes to Seoul will run on extended hours, with night buses connecting downtown Seoul to the airport every day until 3:50 in the morning. (Three routes – to Seoul Station, Yeongdeungpo Station and Gangnam Bus Terminal; 4 times a day) Taxi information service will also be strengthened with attendants and an information facility will be run 24 hours for taxi passengers.

During departure passenger peak hour from 8am to 10am, Incheon Airport will strongly encourage passengers to use the self check-in kiosks and automated immigration systems while ensuring prompt check-in and departure process by concentrating manpower in these areas.

Incheon Airport is advising passengers to avoid confusions during the summer peak season by using public transport, arriving at the airport three hours before departure, using digital notice boards to check how crowded the departure halls are, and checking in advance for any belongings that cannot be taken on board the plane.
