OREANDA-NEWS. August 06, 2014. SORAINEN lawyers helped actress and singer Inga Jankauskaite to defend her rights violated as a result of misappropriation of her identity on Facebook.

Inga Jankauskaite came to SORAINEN for legal assistance in dealing with a fake Facebook account created and managed by third parties. The actress wished to delete the fake account, which had more than 1,000 “friends”, shaped public opinion, and provided misleading information to the real friends and fans of the actress. These acts violated Inga Jankauskaite’s right to a name and the right of personal portrayal protected by the Lithuanian Civil Code and the European Convention on Human Rights.

SORAINEN lawyers representing the actress took legal action to remove the fake account from Facebook. Created and managed by third parties, the account was promptly deleted. Although under the Lithuanian Civil Code a claim is possible for pecuniary and non-pecuniary damages for violation of the right to a name and the right of personal portrayal, Inga Jankauskaite’s main goal in this case was to delete the fake account and to stop the unlawful use of her name and image. In some cases, similar violations, such as those with the elements of slander, an insult or other criminal acts, may also be matters for criminal liability.

Inga Jankauskaite was represented by SORAINEN partner Renata Berzanskiene, senior associate Vyte Danileviciute, head of the Communication, Media and Technology Sector Group, and associate Laurynas Ramuckis, a member of the sector group.
