OREANDA-NEWS. August 05, 2014. New RIC cars will run as part of international train number 21/22, Moscow - Prague, which is operated by the Federal Passenger Company, a subsidiary of Russian Railways.

"RIC" are the Regolamento Internazionale delle Carrozze (International Coach Regulations) which were were first agreed in 1922 to cover the international use of passenger carriages between European railways and now cover 27 railway companies from all European countries apart from the United Kingdom, Ireland and Finland.

The new cars are equipped with:

wider sleeping berths than in conventional carriages which can easily be transformed into individual seats;

folding table in combination with a wash basin and waste receptacle;

air conditioning system with individual controls in each compartment;

sockets for charging mobile devices in each compartment;

2 sanitary rooms, including one with built-in shower.

The new carriages include 8 first-class sleeping compartments with two berths (two lower berths) and second-class cars with 8 sleeping compartment with four berths (2 lower and 2 upper berths).

In order to ensure passenger safety, all compartments are also equipped with an electronic access control system and internal mechanical locks.

The train's maximum speed is 200 kph on the European narrow-gauge track of 1435 mm and 160 kph on the broad-gauge track of 1520 mm between Moscow and Brest.

Passenger fares have not changed.

Since 1 June 1 2014, the new RIC carriages have been part of train number 31/32 "Leo Tolstoy" Moscow - Helsinki.
