OREANDA-NEWS. August 01, 2014. The last two working tram lines in Tallinn will be temporarily closed, starting on August 4, after the first two were closed in April for reconstruction work on Parnu maantee ahead of a switch to new and heavier trams.

The number 1 and 2 trams, currently servicing lines from Kopli to Kadriorg and the Ulemiste area, will be shut from August 4-24, with the city replacing the Kopli to Ulemiste line with the number 42 bus.

The Viru roundabout, the focal point of traffic in Tallinn where all trams pass by, will also be dug up, leaving only one lane for vehicles.

Although the current set of reconstruction projects should be completed soon, the new trams will enter service by the end of next year.
