OREANDA-NEWS. July 30, 2014. Representatives of many Irrigation Water Users’ Associations (AUAI) met to discuss the opportunities to promote involvement of women working in agriculture in management of irrigation systems.

U.S. Embassy Deputy Chief of Mission Kara McDonald said that the United States was ready to provide support for ensuring access to clean water for all Moldovans.

Within the Compact Programme, farmers from more settlements of the country benefitted from assistance to create the above-mentioned associations. They will manage the irrigation systems, which are reconstructed and modernized. Presently, the AUAI bring together about 9,000 farmers, 40 per cent of which are women.

The Compact Programme is implemented by the Millennium Challenges Fund and is estimated at 262 million dollars.
