Power Failure at Nagoya Works
OREANDA-NEWS. At around 7:15 a.m., Sunday, July 27, 2014, a power failure occurred in a part of Nagoya Works of Nippon Steel & Sumitomo Metal Corporation ("NSSMC"). In order to deal with the power failure, coke oven gas was burnt off and a substantial amount of smoke was released.
NSSMC deeply regret any inconvenience that may have been experienced by neighborhood residents and other related parties due to today's smoke generation and release caused by power failure, in addition to those occurred in January and June 2014.
No injuries have been reported from this incident. Coke oven gas which produced smoke has been burnt off and released to the air safely. This combustion was ended at around 10:35 a.m. today.
By around 8:10 a.m. on the same date, power supply to the manufacturing facilities resumed and individual units of equipment and facilities are now being inspected and started up, one by one.
NSSMC intend to take measures to ensure that the product supply to our customers would not be affected.
NSSMC will investigate the cause of this incident and make utmost efforts to prevent the recurrence of this situation, which includes working on the measures NSSMC has already begun to take.
