Kazakh Official Sees Progress on Almaty-Shymkent Highway
OREANDA-NEWS. July 25, 2014. Earthworks in the amount of 3.5 million cubic meters have been executed on the road, 10 km of asphalt revetment undercoat, 29 km of cement concrete have been laid to date, the press service of the Ministry of Transport and Communications reports.
The total length of the Almaty-Shymkenthighway is 245 km. 9 contracting agencies started workingin construction. 10 km is planned to be put into operation during the year.
"Vice Minister of Transport and Communications Mereke Pshembayev got acquaintedwith the progress of works on the highway. During the visit, he held a meeting where he instructed the contracting agencies to increase the pace of work and ensure safe travel throughout the whole area," the statement reads.
After the reconstruction in 2016, Almaty-Shymkent highway will be expanded to four lanes and is related to one technical category.
