Losses of Moldova from Russian Ban Will Exceed USD100 mn
OREANDA-NEWS. July 23, 2014. This was stated by the Minister of agriculture and food industry Vasile Bumacov, noting that the possible losses of producers in case of increase of export duties by Russia without a complete ban would be about USD 30 million.
The Minster said that losses from the Russian embargo are very large, and they are not only financial but also moral. Vasile Bumacov stressed that the ban on supplies of Moldovan fruits and vegetables to Russia is absolutely not connected with product quality, but policy-related. According to him, to agricultural products from Moldova in sanitary departments of Russia was the least satisfactory in comparison with other suppliers, and if you have claims to a certain party products of any company or companies, punishable by specific providers, which were excluded from the list of exporters.
The introduction of the Russian party to present a complete bans on export of agricultural products in Russia shows that currently bilateral documents and agreements are not functioning. The Minister said that the Moldovan side had expected a possible embargo by Russia last autumn, though has not said it in public. At the same time, producers of vegetables and fruits were notified in advance.
They were asked to take efforts to diversify its markets. To assist in this government raised subsidies for the purchase of refrigeration systems and equipment for sorting and packing of fruits. Vasile Bumacov stressed that Association "Moldova-Fruct" did a good job in this direction.
