RUSAL Wins Three-Member ICC Arbitral Tribunal Case against Guinea
OREANDA-NEWS. UC RUSAL (SEHK: 486, Euronext: RUSAL/RUAL, Moscow Exchange: RUALR/RUALRS), a leading global aluminium producer, announces that a three-member ICC arbitral tribunal (Paris, France) has rendered an award in favor of UC RUSAL in its case against the Republic of Guinea regarding RUSAL's purchase of shares in Friguia bauxite and alumina complex.
In the award the tribunal held that the Share Purchase Contract of 14 April 2006 between RUSAL and the Republic of Guinea by which the Company purchased shares in Friguia bauxite and alumina complex is valid and rejected certain allegations by the Guinean side to the effect that RUSAL's purchase of the shares was invalid or improper. The tribunal also ordered the Republic of Guinea to compensate RUSAL EUR250,000 in legal costs.
RUSAL believes that the award further demonstrates RUSAL's reliability as a long-term strategic investor in the Republic of Guinea. The Company is determined to continue its work implementing projects and contributing to social development in the country.
