OREANDA-NEWS. July 18, 2014. Foreign Minister Erlan Idrisov participated in the meeting of Permanent Representatives of landlocked countries to the UN held in Almaty.

According to Erlan Idrisov, the purpose of the event is to discuss implementation of the Almaty Programme of Action adopted in 2013 at the International Conference of Ministers of landlocked developing countries.

"Kazakhstan is the largest landlocked state. In spite of this, our country has achieved significant progress towards sustainable development. Being landlocked can be overcome, and we have developed a plan and are implementing it in practice," he said.

According to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the construction of bridges, roads, communications are a huge task that Kazakhstan overcomes on its own.

"Since independence, Kazakhstan has built hundreds of thousands of modern roads with paved asphalt cover, has laid 1,000 km of railways and 1,000 km of pipelines in different directions. Our port in Aktau is being developed. It is the western gate of Kazakhstan. Together with China, we are building a dry port on the border of our territory, which will be the regional transport and trade haven for regime and travel and business development," E. Idrisov said.

According to him, Kazakhstan acquires assets in the eastern part of China, on the coast.

"We will build our own port where freight traffic through the whole territory of China and far to Europe will be created there. This port will increase the amount of freight traffic and reduce the time of delivery.
